Stride City Run Club put together a team for Run the South Half Marathon, 10K & 5K, one of Charlotte’s summer race events at McAlpine Creek Park. Known as “The Hottest Half,” the race included multiple distance options across a two-day format, including a Friday evening 5K and Saturday morning 10K and Half Marathon.

The event took place at McAlpine Creek Park, 8711 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, NC 28212. The schedule listed the 5K for Friday, June 19, 2026 at 6:15 PM, followed by the Half Marathon on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 7:00 AM and the 10K on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 7:30 AM.

Run the South was a great fit for Stride City because the course is described as fast and flat, with a route through mostly shaded greenways and wide open gravel paths. Whether chasing a PR, trying a new distance, or just looking for a fun race-day atmosphere with familiar faces, it was a strong summer goal race for the club.

All distances included race swag such as running sunglasses, a shirt option, and a custom finisher medal. The race also offered virtual options for runners who wanted to participate on their own schedule.

Race options

  • 5K — Friday, June 19 at 6:15 PM
  • 10K — Saturday, June 20 at 7:30 AM
  • Half Marathon — Saturday, June 20 at 7:00 AM
  • Challenge options — Run the Friday 5K, then come back Saturday for the 10K or Half Marathon

How it went

Run the South was a chance to show up together, celebrate the progress we’ve made on Wednesday nights, and bring that same Stride City energy to the starting line.
